Slipped, Fell and Smacked my Face off the Dance Floor, a film by artist Lisa Freeman features actors, a saxophone player, and the once-busy sea bathing pool at Naylor’s Cove, Bray. This project stems from the artist’s research into sites of failed and poorly designed civic architecture, and how these sites can impact our health, identity and leisure pursuits.
We were asked by Lisa to design a limited edition publication of the same name, to document the site-specific piece. The publication features photographs of the performance, script excerpts, archival imagery and drawings, alongside commissioned texts by Rachel Donnelly, Dennis McNulty and Astrid Newman.
The publication design takes inspiration from the themes, gestures, costumes, and rhythm of the performance. The various textures, sizes and colours used, echo the off-kilter approach of the work and interrupt the natural flow of time for the reader, inviting them into the performance space. Using a mixture of Risograph printing and digital printing, Slipped, Fell and Smacked my Face off the Dance Floor was designed and produced in-house, as an edition of 100.
