IDEATE was a multi-disciplinary mini-festival about making; devised and produced by the Crafts Council of Ireland and the National Craft Gallery to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Kilkenny Design Workshops.
The festival explored and celebrated innovative craft, design and creative practices concerned and engaged with innovation, technology and design.
Our brief was to create a contemporary identity that "drew on the heritage" of Kilkenny Design. The IDEATE identity mirrors the iconic "Double K" KDW logotype designed by Louis Le Brocquy in 1963. The totemic form of the IDEATE logo demands that its is produced at scale and the mark dominates the broad range of collateral produced for the event.
