Dubliners Poster

Bloomsday is a celebration of the life and work of Irish novelist and poet James Joyce. The annual festival, which takes place on the 16th of June, is named after Leopold Bloom, the main character in Joyce’s most famous work Ulysses.

We were commissioned to produce a series of posters for a special Bloomsday that marked 100 years since the day Ulysses was set. Each of these posters represent one of the fifteen short stories from Joyce’s ‘Dubliners’ and accompanied performances by ‘The Here Comes Everybody Players’, a theatrical group from Boston.

‘Dubliners’ captures a darker side of early twentieth century Dublin and it’s people. Many of the stories have a sinister twist, while the city of Dublin is referred to regularly and is suggested as a running theme or character throughout. All of this influenced our approach to the posters.
