100 Archive Steering Committee: call for expressions of interest
It has been 10 years since 100 Archive first began presenting, discussing and contextualising contemporary Irish communication design. In 2021 we undertook a rigorous process of training and preparation, with help from Carmichael and funded by the Heritage Council, to help us to operate as a not-for-profit organisation following charity sector best practice. In the interest of transparency and good governance, and with a view to securing the organisation’s financial sustainability, we will look to change our legal structure in 2022 and consider pursuing charity status. It is at this critical juncture in our development that we would like to invite expressions of interest to join our steering committee. We welcome new committee members to help us to deliver our programme of activities and shape our organisation’s future.
The organisation
100 Archive is a platform for design in Ireland, founded in 2012 by the communication design community. At the core of our activity is the publication of 100 notable projects selected through an annual open call. These yearly archives contain work from the ever broadening area of communication design across a range of applications: from posters for a club night to international corporate rebrands and from identities for small businesses to campaigns for major social movements.
As well as capturing contemporary communication design, we publish articles, produce events and deliver projects that interrogate design’s impact on the world. We partner with designers, professional bodies, government agencies and national institutions to reinforce the importance of design in life, society, commerce and culture; and to build engaged audiences for design in Ireland.
The steering committee
As an almost entirely voluntary-run organisation, the delivery of 100 Archive’s activities are the responsibility of its steering committee. With a small amount of administrative help, steering committee members must ensure that the 100 Archive’s activities are delivered and our financial and governance responsibilities are met. This is an active role that requires enthusiasm, strategic thinking and commitment!
Each new steering committee member will join the organisation for a term of three years, with the option to renew and spend a maximum of six years on the committee. The committee meets every two months, plus an AGM, and each committee member will be responsible for the management of a particular area of 100 Archive’s activity. Meetings are currently held virtually, but ideally we would meet in person for the AGM and one other meeting per year, likely in Dublin.
The type of tasks steering committee members will be expected to undertake include:
Ensuring that each annual selection is managed and delivered. Supporting our articles team. Managing the website’s ongoing maintenance and development. Devising and delivering events and projects. Developing relationships with academia and education. Managing our fundraising, partnerships and stakeholder relationships. Ensuring our finance, administration and governance responsibilities are met. Representing 100 Archive at events, speaking engagements and other public-facing activities. Maximising opportunities for organisational development.
The ideal candidates
As a steering committee member, you should have at least one of the following:
An understanding of design. An understanding of the broader culture and heritage sector. Previous experience in a registered charity, not-for-profit or voluntary organisation. Previous experience in fundraising, development and stakeholder management. An understanding of charity/not-for-profit management and governance. Previous experience managing finances. An understanding of communications and the role good communications (online, press, stakeholder communications etc) plays in a successful organisation. An understanding of digital development
All candidates should have an understanding of the importance of leadership and collaboration, and a firm belief in 100 Archive’s mission to present, discuss and contextualise contemporary Irish design and to build audiences for design in Ireland.

At this time we are particularly seeking steering committee members who bring expertise beyond the design sector, including those who have experience in fundraising, communications, finance or not-for-profit governance.

Please include details of relevant professional experience and identify any previous service as a board director, trustee or any other voluntary/community work. The deadline for expressions of interest is Sunday 17 April. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an informal interview in late April.
