With a crack team assembled, work has kicked off on our Creative Ireland-funded research and communication project, Map Irish Design. James has pulled all of the data from the site (that’s data from 1000+ users and almost 3000 project submissions!) and Elaine has started trawling through it to find the connections. Keelin has created an identity for the project and is creating a microsite where you will find out what’s happening and how to contribute, while John and Joe from studio9 are beginning to think about how we bring data and stories to life through animation. Meanwhile, Aideen is plotting for ways to share our findings offline as well as beyond 2019...
Map Irish Design survey #1: where and when
We want to get a picture of studios and design businesses in 2010 — the year of the first 100 Archive selection — and now, so give us a hand! Fill out this super quick survey telling us about your studio or One Person Enterprise (it’s a term now, or so we’re told) then and now: [link]
Call for volunteers! We need help with data…
The Map Irish Design project has made us realise that with almost 3000 projects submitted to the site, we likely have the biggest dataset relating to Irish design ever in the history of the world. Pretty impressive when we put it like that, eh?! But it means there is a LOT for us to trawl through, update and try to make sense of. Do you have a few hours to spare in June and would be happy to look at some of the work submitted to the site, look at the associated data and try to connect the dots? If you think you can spare 6+ hours then drop us a line. Please note that if you volunteer we ask that you attend/Skype into a workshop explaining what we’re doing and how we’re going about it on Thursday 6 June at 11am in Zero-G, 135 Capel Street, Dublin 1.
